Our choices...Lets do our best with what we have.
We are in charge...never let them forget it.
"A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish."

Posted at 7:05pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Breaking News: IndyMac Bank Seized by Federal Regulators
By Steve Foley
quote]The federal government said it took control of troubled IndyMac Bank today, in what regulators called the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history.
The Office of Thrift Supervision in Washington, the chief regulator of Pasadena-based IndyMac, said it transferred control of the $32-billion bank to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
With all the talk about Fannie and Freddie and more possible bailouts this is devastating news! FDIC will make people whole on $100,000.00 or more and my guess is that everyone will be made whole after all is said and done!
The Dow is down 230 points and most people paying attention this morning saw the writing on the wall and a wholesale bail on IndyMac caused the seizure of the bank this afternoon!

Posted at 7:04pm on Jul. 11, 2008 BREAKING: Bank Collapses. Feds cite Sen. Chuck Schumer as "immediate cause" of collapse
By Erick
Federal regulators just seized and shut down IndyMac, a major mortgage specialist.
The Pasadena, Calif., thrift was one of the largest savings and loans in the country with about $32 billion in assets. It now joins an infamous list of collapsed banks, topped by Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Co., which failed in 1984 with $40 billion of assets.
IndyMac specialized in Alt-A loans, a type of mortgage that can often be offered to borrowers who don't fully document their incomes or assets. The company sold most of the loans it originated but continued to hold some on its books. As defaults piled up, IndyMac's finances deteriorated.
The bank will be run by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., a federal regulator, and will reopen Monday.
Now the question is, did Senator Chuck Schumer cause IndyMac's collapse? The Office of Thrift Supervision, that regulates entities like IndyMac, says "the immediate cause" of IndyMac's collapse was Senator Chuck Schumer.
In a written statement, the Office of Thrift Supervision, which regulated IndyMac, said "the immediate cause" of the failure was statements made by Sen. Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat. Mr. Schumer in late June publicly raised concerns about the bank's solvency.
"Although this institution was already in distress, I am troubled by any interference in the regulatory process," said OTS Director John Reich.
This is huge -- that a federal regulatory agency would precisely finger a United States Senator as being responsible for a present financial disaster. And why? Because Schumer demands camera time and soapboxes to keep his power. And this time, he stepped up too high.
Now taxpayers will foot Schumer's bill.

Posted at 6:58pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Anyone here heard of Jamie Gorelick?!!
By Pentagon16
For us older guys, we remember that some woman under the Clinton regime at one time headed the Department of Justice in some kind of job, and she defended Bill during the Lewinsky "escapade."
Then, several years later all of a sudden, who do we see but Jamie Gorelick being appointed by the libs to the 9/11 Commission.
Strangely enough, it turns out that Ms. Gorelick was one of the key architects of the FBI policy whereby intelligence agencies were not able to share certain information on possible Islamic terrorists during the 1990s. Oh yeah, and this stopped the CIA and FBI and counter terror units from discussing Mohammed Atta and the other 18 hijackers.

Posted at 6:20pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Newsweek Poll: Obama 44, McCain 41(the 15-point lead is gone)
By wsjreader
Ha ha, the crazy Newsweek just comes out with another poll. Barry's 15-point is gone.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/145737/page/1
A month after emerging victorious from the bruising Democratic nominating contest, some of Barack Obama's glow may be fading. In the latest NEWSWEEK Poll, the Illinois senator leads Republican nominee John McCain by just 3 percentage points, 44 percent to 41 percent. The statistical dead heat is a marked change from last month's NEWSWEEK Poll, where Obama led McCain by 15 points, 51 percent to 36 percent.

Posted at 5:06pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Pelosi's Stunt with the Gas Sign
By Vegas Rick
I apologize, because I don’t even know what the “stunt” was. But Rep King (R) NY is all in a tizzy about it on Fox News, and wants everyone to call Pelosi’s office and tell her to bring the bills to the floor of the House that will end the drilling moratorium.
It don’t need much reason to call Pelosi’s office and b**ch about Dem policies, so I’ve been trying for over half an hour and can’t get through.

Posted at 10:27am on Jul. 11, 2008 Marsha Blackburn May Need to Be Mac’s VP Pick.
By Jim Tomasik
She might, just maybe, need that job.
Tennessee’s own Republican sweetheart, 7th district’s Congressional Representative Marsha Blackburn has a primary challenger named Tom Leatherwood. He is the Shelby County Register or Deeds. Leatherwood is beating Blackburn over the head in a nasty little regional fight. He looks like he could take the district's strongest county and maybe a few others nearby.

By dld1717
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/11/nyregion/11rangel.html?_r=1&hp&oref=sl...
Mr. Rangel, the powerful Democrat who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, uses his fourth apartment, six floors below, as a campaign office, despite state and city regulations that require rent-stabilized apartments to be used as a primary residence.
As a NYC resident what I would give to have 4 NYC apartments at only 1,000 a month.

It is amazing as a historian to see the exact same forces of 150 years ago resurface today.
Does THIS sound like anyone we know?!!
"After four years of failure...by the experience of war... we demand that immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities.. with a view to an ultimate convention or other peaceable means to the end that peace may be restored on the basis of the Federal Union"

On Tuesday, Senator McCain went before the League of Latin American Citizens and gave a speech.

Senator John McCain told a major Hispanic group here Tuesday that he remained committed to passing the kind of immigration legislation that angered many Republican voters last year, but he underscored that he intended to first secure U.S. borders.

By Han Pritcher
Good evening. A few folks had asked for this, so I'll provide it. I wish to be clear as crystal here - I did not join RedState to convince anyone to vote for Senator Obama. This is not proselytizing of any sort. A few folks wanted to know why I'm voting for Obama, and I'm answering that question. Do not comment with mockery, personal insults, or anything of the sort. I'm a little uncomfortable doing this given the audience (I'm not saying you're a rude bunch, but rather that you're, shall we say, disinclined to agree?), but I said I would write the blog. Engage the points I make if you like but please be reasonable. And yes, I expect that most of you will be.
