If one person put it in a book, using foo, bar, baz, etc. as variables, then thousands could have picked it up just from him.

actually it is my opinion that most people know fubar from Saving Private Ryan but won't admit it. That term was hot in WW2 but not in the military of the 80s and 90s. It may have made a comeback because of the movie, but we used other terms, most started with the word cluster, when I was in.

fubar was widely used in every unit I was involved with.

Quite common slang in my day, and I'm a Viet Nam era vet.

Thrown in SNAFU while you're at it.

Maybe a SSDD too.

Foobar is an excellent piece of software for cataloging and playing your music files. I've arranged my files so I can click on a genre, the artist, and the album. For Instance, CLASSICAL D-G, Elgar, and the Enigma Variations. (It's what's playing now.)

I found at over at Major Geeks, but you can find it more easily at the foobar2000 site.

I think the drafter of the parent note is deeply sad, by the way, and is crying out for love. Or something questionable like that.

It's an acronym. by Achance

Posting rules don't allow the first word. The remainder is: -up beyond all recognition. It's old, probably WWII or earlier. But in the computer world, you have lots of people where "it's right for me" is the only commandment, so I guess they can spell it whatever way makes them feel good about themselves.

then you can't know what it means :)

with all the variations of modern military slang and acronyms. I do shoptalk and slang pretty well, but I found myself not understanding half of what my infantryman son was saying, so I bought it. Don't know where I got it or even where it is, but it's cool.

Having spent so much time in government, my favorite acronyms were TLA and FLA - three letter acronyms and four letter acronyms; just throw those in once in a while and watch the scramble to figure out what you're talking about.

Sunshine? by bobnivik

Hate to rain on your parade, but it's actually raining on mine: 48F and Overcast in northern IN. I should get back to work and be productive though......:)

15 above today. So, I've spent most of the day in my nice warm office in front of this computer. Gotta get out and go down to the boat this evening though; heat going off in that thing would be a bad, bad thing.

Go outside, enjoy the sunshine.

I can't. Global warming is causing increased incidence of skin cancer.

But I'm sure if we took a scientific poll of adults, 75% would agree that the hole in the ozone layer is the cause of global warming.

I'm definitely not the funniest person in the room. Until I'm not trying to be funny anyway.

It's just that some people are dumber than fiction, heh.

Where I could point to the near 40 degree change in temperature and the dusting of snow that we now have in the St. Louis metro area. That is global warming at its finest.
