Our choices...Lets do our best with what we have.
We are in charge...never let them forget it.
"A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish."
W. H. Auden
1907-1973, Anglo-American Poet
Update...shhhh...I put this up trying for the last blog...It's late now and I'm waiting to see if somebody snakes me...Neil you better hurry up and change over so I can be the last one.

Posted at 10:26pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Michelle Obama: Spend $600 stimulus check on earrings
By wsjreader
After a lull, Michelle Obama is opening up her big mouth again. Enjoy!!
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jul/11/michelle-obama-spend-600...
Mrs. Obama said in Pontiac, Michigan Wednesday that if her husband is elected he will offer more than a "quick fix" on the economy.
"You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month," she said. "The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings."

Posted at 9:48pm on Jul. 11, 2008 A Winning Strategy for Republicans…Umm…Wait…They’d Have to Stand For Something…Well...Never Mind.
By aceintx
OK…So, We’re a month away from the Republican Convention and here’s my take on where we are!
Gas is over $4.00 a gallon and I’m paying $65 dollars to fill up my Mercury Villager, (It’s a Mini Van. Forget buying a tin can that get’s 40 mpg since I have a wife and 3 kids). I’m reading polls approaching 70 % of the American People that want to drill here and drill now yet the Democrats are standing in the way of drilling in ANWR and on the outer continental shelf for oil. It’s been 30 plus years since a new refinery has been built in this country and the Democrats are standing in the way of building any new ones.

Posted at 8:45pm on Jul. 11, 2008 NH Lynch Mob
By El Cabra
John Lynch has introduced a broad based tax on New Hampshire and most of us don’t even know it. By signing up for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative(RGGI), Lynch will now be taxing us through our utility companies. The money earned by the state from energy providers in the form of carbon offsets, will raise the rates on electricity. So every home owner, renter, and business in New Hampshire, without exception, will now be hit hard by Lynch's new shadow tax.

By Vladimir
LA-06 is the Baton Rouge vacated by Rep Richard Baker (R), a ten-term incumbent. The special election to replace Baker was won by Don Cazayoux, a Dem, over Woody Jenkins just a couple of months ago.
Qualifying for this fall's regular elections closed today. In an interesting twist,

Posted at 8:35pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae hit skid row on Wall Street
By RollingThunder
The MSM has already reported on the decline of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and its effects on Wall Street. Restating what has previously been reported is not my purpose here. My thoughts on this subject turn to the bigger picture.
The picture which I see when I read and hear of Freddie and Fannie is how big government has failed one more time. Those of you who read my work with any regularity know that I have a strong Federalist, Conservative belief system. Quoting the third President of the United States: "The government that governs least is the government that governs best."

Posted at 7:24pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Senator McCain will get my vote.
By Tim Schieferecke
I wanted to take this opportunity to pass on a recent letter to the editor I read in the Topeka Capital Journal. It helped me soften my own hard opinion about Senator McCain.
http://www.cjonline.com/stories/070808/opi_301147857.shtml
Senator McCain will not only get my vote because he's not Obama, he will get it because he's a decent, honorable man. I've recently seen in him the ability to adapt to more conservative positions in the effort to meet current hard edged realities head on. As he does so, I would like to encourage others to reconsider Senator McCain with his recent improvements in mind. As opposed to Obama, this historical and existential election is too important for us to lose over the real but infinitely smaller disagreements we have with our candidate.

Posted at 7:05pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Breaking News: IndyMac Bank Seized by Federal Regulators
By Steve Foley
quote]The federal government said it took control of troubled IndyMac Bank today, in what regulators called the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history.
The Office of Thrift Supervision in Washington, the chief regulator of Pasadena-based IndyMac, said it transferred control of the $32-billion bank to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
With all the talk about Fannie and Freddie and more possible bailouts this is devastating news! FDIC will make people whole on $100,000.00 or more and my guess is that everyone will be made whole after all is said and done!
The Dow is down 230 points and most people paying attention this morning saw the writing on the wall and a wholesale bail on IndyMac caused the seizure of the bank this afternoon!

Posted at 6:58pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Anyone here heard of Jamie Gorelick?!!
By Pentagon16
For us older guys, we remember that some woman under the Clinton regime at one time headed the Department of Justice in some kind of job, and she defended Bill during the Lewinsky "escapade."
Then, several years later all of a sudden, who do we see but Jamie Gorelick being appointed by the libs to the 9/11 Commission.
Strangely enough, it turns out that Ms. Gorelick was one of the key architects of the FBI policy whereby intelligence agencies were not able to share certain information on possible Islamic terrorists during the 1990s. Oh yeah, and this stopped the CIA and FBI and counter terror units from discussing Mohammed Atta and the other 18 hijackers.

Posted at 6:20pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Newsweek Poll: Obama 44, McCain 41(the 15-point lead is gone)
By wsjreader
Ha ha, the crazy Newsweek just comes out with another poll. Barry's 15-point is gone.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/145737/page/1
A month after emerging victorious from the bruising Democratic nominating contest, some of Barack Obama's glow may be fading. In the latest NEWSWEEK Poll, the Illinois senator leads Republican nominee John McCain by just 3 percentage points, 44 percent to 41 percent. The statistical dead heat is a marked change from last month's NEWSWEEK Poll, where Obama led McCain by 15 points, 51 percent to 36 percent.

Posted at 5:06pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Pelosi's Stunt with the Gas Sign
By Vegas Rick
I apologize, because I don’t even know what the “stunt” was. But Rep King (R) NY is all in a tizzy about it on Fox News, and wants everyone to call Pelosi’s office and tell her to bring the bills to the floor of the House that will end the drilling moratorium.
It don’t need much reason to call Pelosi’s office and b**ch about Dem policies, so I’ve been trying for over half an hour and can’t get through.

By aaronbg
This last weekend I went to the car was to get my Jeep all cleaned up. While I was in the lobby waiting for my vehicle I perused the greeting cards they had for sale. Most of them were the regular old cards and silly jokes...but then to my surprise I saw these:

That one was pretty good but then this one is really something..

Posted at 4:51pm on Jul. 11, 2008 The pushback against Democrats' attempts to limit online communication continues
By Congressman Mike Conaway
Thank you to the hundreds of you who took time out of your day yesterday to sign my petition, to join my Facebook group, and/or to call Speaker Pelosi's office about Democratic attempts to limit online communication between the American people and their elected representatives. If you haven't yet, I encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience. You can also put a petition widget on your site by copying and pasting the code from the bottom of this post on my blog.
I am grateful to sites like RedState, which are keeping readers informed about this issue while keeping the heat on Congressional leaders. Several of my House Republican colleagues, including John Culberson, Thaddeus McCotter, and Minority Leader John Boehner, have also been working hard to make sure that the truth about this issue is presented to the American people.
Please read on.

Posted at 4:25pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Wasteful Officials Idle Their SUVs
By grforbes
Grassley lectured government officials today for idling their SUVs. According to Grassley, these officials will leave their vehicles idling for hours while they conduct government business. In a letter to the president dated July 10, Grassley has asked the president to help stop this wasteful practice.

Posted at 4:15pm on Jul. 11, 2008 Chris Satullo: Pantywaist Extraordinaire
By gclaghorn
There's a reason I hate the Philadelphia "Pinkquirer" more than I loath the New York Times. Maureen Dowd doesn't bother me with her downright vicious columns on Laura Bush's "omnivorous fiction reading." I'm not disturbed in the least by Paul Krugman's commentaries on the obvious rise in gas prices. (We hadn't noticed that gas hit $4!) I shrug when Frank Rich gay-baits God. Sure, if it matters that much to Keith Olbermann, Bush is comparable to Hitler.
